Background to Develop Training
Develop Training was established in its current form in 2007, but has a history of training and assessment stretching back nearly 50 years. The organisation has a staff of over 100 as well as a rich network of associates, sub-contractors and partnerships which form an extended corporate family.
Providing services for many of the UK’s largest infrastructure companies, in addition to thousands of smaller firms, and training over 10,000 learners every year, Develop Training has established a robust Code of Practice and Continuous Learning Loop model which underpins its whole operation.
In 2019 Develop Training was acquired by the JTL Group, with both organisations continuing to operate under their current trading names, with business as usual.
Training sector expertise
All our training centres have diversified such that most training solutions can be delivered from each centre or on client premises. With the exception of some programmes requiring larger and more fixed assets, the vast majority of other training has become more flexible, more mobile and more local, driven by the market and our clients.
All our training centres facilitate a wide variety of training courses including Streetworks (NRSWA), electrical and mechanical, water systems and legionella, confined spaces, downstream gas & ACS, gas distribution, water and environmental, general health and safety, as well as courses suitable across many industries including UKATA asbestos training, IOSH training and safe working at height courses.
Develop have training centres in the following locations;
- Linlithgow, Scotland
- York
- Manchester
- Derby
- Birmingham
- Swindon
- Brentwood
- Norwich
As part of the JTL Group we also have access to their training centres.

Centres of expertise
The training centre at York retains particular expertise within the Facilities Management sector and it has been influential in setting high standards for training, in particular for safe systems of work for Authorising Engineers and Authorised Persons. We continue to have a fantastic relationship with AE’s and AP’s across the Commercial, Healthcare and Defence sectors.
The training centre at Derby will be well known to many from the Utilities sector (Gas, Electric, Water) and for some time it has been the hub for an extensive portfolio of compliance and technical training in the utilities industry, and the delivery of a not insignificant number of utilities apprenticeships. We are proud to work with so many organisations large and small and it makes us very proud to see former apprentices moving through into supervisory roles and beyond.
Training in Scotland
Our training centre in Linlithgow, near Glasgow and Edinburgh, continues to be developed but has the capability to deliver gas, legionella, water and health and safety courses. It is also due to undergo a substantial refurbishment in 2022.
Technical competence and compliance
Develop Training works with many awarding organisations such as City & Guilds, ILM, CABWI and IOSH delivering a wide range of accredited qualifications.
Develop also offer a suite of programmes which are endorsed by the likes of City & Guilds and Energy & Utility Skills, mapped to industry standards, and are audited against strict quality control measures to ensure compliance and continuous improvement/maintenance of our training and assessment programmes.
eLearning and flexible learning options
We also offer a wide range of flexible eLearning programmes including Virtual Classroom, Blended learning and Digital learning. These give both employers and learners the flexibility to attend training from anywhere in the world, without the issue of travel and accommodation.
